Car has a buy it now price of $29,500 for 20 days.

Sellers description:
This car has been in storage for the last 45+ years. Its puported previous owner was former VP of USA, Hubert Humphrey. The car is only missing the left front interior door panel, the rear bumper, the battery and the toolkit. Otherwise, every single component of the car is in its proper place. The engine has clean oil and turns freely; none of the glass is broken. Car has 5 knock-off wheels. The windshield still cranks out and none of the gauges are damaged. The car does come with one-set of additional carburetor and linkage and there are extra wood trim pieces in the trunk.

Car now offered at:

Seller's description:

Location: Madison, Wisconsin, previously Buchanan, NY

VIN #: 250352

Mileage: 6

Transmission: Manual

Condition: Excellent

Exterior: Bare Aluminum and Primer

Interior: Your Choice

All ready for paint! Currently in bare aluminum and primer. This gorgeous 'fresh' restoration of this very rare 1936 SS Jaguar 2-1/2 Liter Open Tourer is ready for the new owner to paint and upholster to their liking. The hand-built body just arrived from England and was placed on the matching numbers restored chassis and rebuilt matching numbers engine. The Opener Tourer body was built by two world renowned coach builders, specializing in SS Jaguars; Ken Sparkes and Trevor Davis, both of England.

My SS Jaguar was once owned by Vice President Hubert Humphrey and was found in a barn in Martha's Vineyard seven years ago. I found the belt buckle of the Vice President under the back seat; Vice Presidential seal and all. Originally built as a saloon. I even have multiple photos of the car on the deck of the ship when it was transported from the UK, as well as it trip back to a tour a Europe and Germany in particular. 1936 is the rarest of all the SS Jaguar years. In addition, it was the last year of the coach-built SS Jaguar; and more importantly, the very first year an SS was called a ‘Jaguar'.

The leaping jaguar mascot [hood ornament] was first placed on the car in 1936. The one I have on the car now is the factory original, not a reproduction and weights about a pound. I even had the brass windshield[windscreen] pillars and frame cast in England from an original. The motor was rebuilt to racing specs by PHP Racing Engines in Illinois. PHP is one of the top engine rebuilders in the nation. Everything was done to original factory specification. We used an NOS set of main bearing that were still in the wax paper greased wrappers from the factory. Probably the last set of NOS main bearings on earth. This car is rocket fast. There are just 6 miles on the odometer. And yes, I do have the original leather seats; still in very nice patina'd condition.

All of the instruments, as well as the speedo, have all been rebuilt and re-faced. The car comes with a brand new $5,000 complete metal-braided [correct] wiring harness and the original re-chromed factory accessory SS100 headlamps and roadlamps with the optional chrome stone shields. The side mount wheel also comes with its correct two-piece wheel cover and chrome mount. They are not reproductions, but the real thing. the headlamps are marked QK596 as they should be. These headlamps were available only to both the SS100 Roadster and the Open Tourers.

The side mount wheel also comes with its correct two-piece wheel cover and chrome mount. Every single mechanical component has been rebuilt, as well as a new gas tank. A brand new, very large, trunk tool tray, built to original specs accompanies purchase. I also had a new all brass windscreen[windshield] frame surround made in England. It was cast from the original. Side curtain frames and hardware are already completed. As well as the perfect fitting top bows and wooden header bar and latches. An original set of trafficators are included in the sale.

I have included a photo of a New Zealand coin dated 1933 in the cylinder head with some sort of bird in the middle that was there when I bought the car. It was being used as a freeze plug. When the motor was rebuilt, I told them leave the coin there. Very cool, but very odd.

In summation, all of the hard work has been done. The new owner would simply choose the colors he wants to apply to the bare aluminum body and primed front fenders[wings] and hood[bonnet].

This is a very special motorcar, and finest you will ever see.

I am open to an offer for this vehicle as is, or discuss completing the restoration at my shop. My painter is world-class and has painted cars that took first place at the Pebble Beach Concours.

This 'ready to paint and upholster' concours chassis, motor and body starts, runs, and drives like it's brand new.

For international buyers, I have already had my export company quote the rate to deliver to Europe. $3840 USD. Enclosed container via sea transport. If you are in the US, I also can dispatch my driver to deliver this car to your door.

Madison, WI Price: $250,000 obo
