This particular car saw a high quality restoration in the late 1980s and has been well-preserved so that it remains in excellent order today. Additionally, in 2001, the car saw a full engine rebuild, from the rechromed crankshaft up. The camshaft was reground to original specification, all valves and guides were replaced, and the clutch replaced. At this point the ignition system and carburetors were comprehensively serviced, and the carburetors rejetted as well.
The car is in excellent cosmetic condition, with a high quality lacquer paint job that has a few small chips and one small area of peeling on the inner edge of the left fender, near the bonnet. The chrome is very nice, showing some minor hazing and surface scratches. The wheels are very good painted items with excellent chrome spinners. The iconic Lucas P100 headlamps are excellent shape, as are the very neat rear turn signals, as well as all remaining glass and lenses.
The interior is in similarly nice condition, with only light patina present. The leather of the seats is very good with some light creasing, and the carpets have survived well and are superbly fitted. The edging near the driver`s door aperture is worn in a few places. The painted dashboard is nice, and the attractive gauges are restored and lovely. A pair of Brooklands windscreens is fitted behind the fold-down windscreen.
The engine compartment and underside are both nicely detailed to a good standard. Neither is detailed for show but both have the feel of a thorough high-quality older restoration that has seen minimal use and shows a few signs of age. They are quite clean and very attractive and speak to the completeness of and attention to detail paid during the restoration.
The car runs very well, with a sprightly and responsive motor, good driveline, and a generally tight and sound feel to the car. The brakes work well and the car impresses the driver with what a remarkable and different feeling it must have been to drive this car in the late 1930`s.
