"A fantastic example, with superb continuous history

A correct and genuine SS100 with contiguous and assuring history is very difficult to locate indeed

49062, is one such example.

These fabulous cars often find their way overseas or are reconstructions based around pre war saloons - but this is one of the very few original examples to have remained in the UK from new.

It features a fantastic history file which includes photographs of its pre war competition history and the 'buff' continuation log book dating back to 1955 when it was owned by artist Jacob Epstein no less.

The fitment of its current and correct pre war SS 3.5 litre engine was undertaken in 1960 and is well documented. This engine has covered very few miles since a more recent rebuild.

Lord O’Neill added 49062 to his fabulous stable in 1970 soon after its expert and sympathetic restoration was completed. It remained in the collection for the next 38 years, before we added it to our own in 2008 – having waited very patiently to locate such a car.

It has a wonderful record of ongoing maintenance since Lord O’Neill acquired the car, and in such a fabulous colour scheme, must be one of the ultimate examples to survive."

This car was a 21st Birthday present to my father on 30/04/1939 who lived at Cedar Lawn Lapworth. It cost £390.00. He sold it in after the war in 1948 for about £850.00. So it was my first car too. I was born in 1944. I still have the SS Car Club badge photos and a painting by Michael Maul circa 1962.

This car has been in Brisbane, Australia for a number of years and is part of an extensive private collection. It is not used often and remains superb.

It is also the ex-Jacob Epstien car - famous sculpture and painter and father of racer Jackie.

It featured on the cover of Jaguar Magazine (jaguarmagazine.com) in 2014.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
