Car was at auction 7/15
www.handh.co.uk/buy/1939-ss-jaguar-15-litre-saloon/11857

Auction description:
Lot No 33
Jaguar 1.5 Litre Saloon
Year 1939
Vehicle Registration CGE 623
Chassis Number 52451
Engine Number KA7858
CC 1701
Body Colour Silver / Black
Trim Colour Red
MOT Expiry Exempt
Estimate £16000 - 20000

- Three keepers from new and current ownership since 1989
- Factory-fitted sunroof, knock-on wire wheels, red leather upholstery
- £4,000 spent on recent engine / gearbox fettling plus new exhaust

The sale car was first registered in February of that year, since when it has had just three keepers, including the vendor who has retained it for the last 26 years. It sports distinctive Black over Silver bodywork and is trimmed in a suitably rich shade of Red leather. The vendor informs us that the Jaguar has been laid up for the past few years, but that around £4,000 has been invested in it in the last 150 miles; this funded an overhaul of the Standard-derived four-cylinder engine and four-speed manual gearbox, and a replacement exhaust. She now classes the interior trim as 'good/very original', the bodywork, engine and transmission as 'good', and the paintwork as 'average'. The indicated mileage stands at an unwarranted 68,578 and the sporty-looking SS comes complete with knock-on wire wheels and factory-fitted sunroof.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
