The SS100 is a British 2 seat sports car built between 1936 and 1940 by SS Cars Ltd of Coventry, England. In 1936 the name Jaguar was given to a new saloon car and from then on to all the cars. Following World War II, due to the connotations then attached to the initials SS, the company was renamed Jaguar.
On its initial test carried out by The Autocar magazine in 1937 the 2.5 litre (20 RAC HP rating) cabriolet with the windscreen lowered, proved to have a maximum speed of 95 mph (153 km/h) and a 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) time of 13.5 seconds. Widely considered to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing Jaguar cars ever built it is also one of the rarest with only 198 cars ever produced with the 2.5 litre engine.
Our car was delivered new to Colonel W. V. Nugent. It was exported to America at some time where it remained in the sunny California climate until 2008 when it was re-imported by Gerry Porter, a well-respected Classic car dealer. It was then sold in 1988 to its last owner where it remained as part of a very important private collection until we were lucky enough to purchase the car from the collection recently.
Recently comprehensively re-commissioned mechanically by the marque experts and now ready to be enjoyed!"

The SS100 on offer today was delivered new in 1937 to a Colonel W. V. Nugent. It was later exported to America where it was comprehensively restored during the 1980s and remained in the sunny Californian climate until 1988 when it was re-imported by classic car dealer Gerry Porter. Upon re-importation the car was purchased for a private family collection where it remained for over twenty years. During the family's ownership 18083 was lovingly cosseted in the family's private museum and meticulously maintained by their in-house engineer.
Although the Jaguar was in exceptional condition, the fastidious owner undertook a thorough recommissioning of the bodywork and mechanics including a comprehensive engine rebuild by marque specialist David Davenport, completed 2010; this wonderful SS100 runs beautifully and has covered only 445 miles since.
The lustrous Jaguar Opalescent Gunmetal Grey paintwork complements the burgundy leather interior beautifully. The gleaming brightwork adorning the svelte body, retaining its original Lucas QK headlights and Owl's Eye rear lights, is also in excellent condition.
This is an extraordinarily well-presented example of an exceptionally desirable model, with its combination of effortless elegance and excellent road manners and is truly an iconic British sports car. That the SS100 is so instantly recognisable is remarkable considering the rarity of the model, this being one of only 198 produced, and is testament to the perfect proportions and elegance of the bodywork.

Chassis number '18083' was supplied new in 1937 via Appleyards (probably the well known Yorkshire motor dealer of that name). Its early history is not recorded but the car is known to have been in the USA during the early/mid-1980s in the ownership of Gerry Wright of San Diego, California, who treated it to a full 'body off' restoration. Accompanying photographs show the car carrying US registration plates and painted red. Correspondence on file states that the Jaguar had been purchased from a Mr Eric Hook in the UK, passing in 1988 to Kensington-based motor dealer Gerry Porter, who re-imported it. Porter sold the car to Peter Allmand-Smith of Chelford, Cheshire, who appears to have been the proprietor of a Macclesfield-based company called Stormguard (see correspondence on file). The car was allocated the age-related registration 'NSU 698'.
Invoices on file record various works carried out since the Jaguar's return to the UK, including the purchase of a new radiator and a replacement original 2½-litre SS engine (the car had been fitted with a 3½-litre unit). Issued by Davenport Cars Ltd of Tetworth Bedfordshire, the bill for the latter is dated December 2009 and made out to SAS (Stormguard) indicating that they were still its owners at that time. More recently, in April/June 2013, the car benefited from the installation of a new hood, tonneau cover and hood bag (all in mohair), hood frame, transmission cover, interior mirror, wing mirrors, windscreen wipers/arms and new Dunlop C41 tyres, in addition to a host of more minor repairs (see bills from marque specialists Suffolk Jaguar on file). Fully serviced, 'on the button' and ready to be enjoyed, it comes with history file containing Jaguar Cars dating letter, some old MoTs (most recent expired November 2012), assorted DVLC correspondence, some marque-related literature, JDC membership details and old-style Swansea V5 documents.
