Coy's auction result:
"Today's example was manufactured on the 16th February 1938, dispatched to Henlys of London on 19th February, and purchased by J M Saunders on 7th April. This beautiful SS100 has resided with the vendors since 1979, undergoing a full restoration between 1980 and 1981 by a celebrated marque expert. The matching numbers engine (1022) was reconditioned and balanced by Gordon Smith Ltd. and received little use initially as it was a spare with the car using another engine; the correct 2.5 litre engine is now fitted however, and is described as being in excellent condition.
A detailed file including a photographic record of the restoration and engine rebuild as well as photographs of various rallies and club meetings are included along with news paper cuttings from the Guernsey Evening Star featuring the car as it was driven to the owners God-daughter's wedding in 1983. Also included in the file is an original-type buff log book, V5 document, Heritage Trust certificate and 11 old MoT certificates.
This is a well-presented example of an exceptionally desirable model, attractively finished in blue with a contrasting red hide interior, a truly iconic British sports car. The SS100 is one of those cars which was recognized as a true classic almost while still in production and remains infinitely desirable almost seventy five years later. "

Today's example was manufactured on the 16th February 1938, dispatched to Henlys of London on 19th February, and purchased by J M Saunders on 7th April. This beautiful SS100 has resided with the previous owners since 1979, undergoing a full restoration between 1980 and 1981 The matching numbers engine (1022) was reconditioned and balanced by Gordon Smith Ltd. and received little use.
A detailed file including a photographic record of the restoration and engine rebuild as well as photographs of various rallies and club meetings are included along with news paper cuttings from the Guernsey Evening Star featuring the car as it was driven to the previous owners God-daughter's wedding in 1983. Also included in the file is an original-type buff log book, V5 document, Heritage Trust certificate and 11 old MoT certificates.
This is a lovely matching numbers example of an exceptionally desirable model, attractively finished in blue with a contrasting red hide interior, a truly iconic British sports car.
Most recently the car has been extensively overhauled by British specialists including Robert Thredder Engineering and Oakfields in Hampshire and in all respects is difficult to realistically fault.
This is an example of one of the great pre-war two-seater sportscars built by a leading international manufacturer. It has perfect history, first-class documentation, all its original components, including the all-important original engine, and is in unrivalled condition. Cars of this quality are very hard to find in the historic car world of 2013.
